Over the last decade, tennis has become one of the most popular sports betting online niches. From brand name stars to relative unknowns, fans looking to place a sports bet on tennis matches are now able to do so at many sportsbooks. For the bettor that has never wagered on tennis before, here is a guide on how to do so.
There are several ways to bet on a tennis match. Bettors can choose from heads up, prop bets, and totals as ways to gamble on each match. Here is a look at each technique.
- Heads Up - Similar to the money line, the heads up tennis bet, simply requires bettors to take the player who they believe will win the match outright. However, also comparable to the money line, bettors have to risk more for the favorite and less for the underdog. Here is what a heads up betting line looks like.
Bob Smith +700
Rafael Nadal - 200
In this example, Bob Smith is the underdog, as represented by the plus sign beside the number 700. For fans taking Smith to win the match, they simply need to risk $100 to get back $700 since Smith has seven to one odds of winning the match. Meanwhile, Nadal is considered the favorite, as depicted by the minus sign in front of the 200. Since Nadal is a two to one favorite, bettors have to risk $200 to get back $100 when taking him to win the match outright.
- Props Betting - Tennis props betting has a couple of different styles. On the one hand, bettors can take the over or under on the amount of sets that will be played between the two featured players. Conversely, bettors can also use a point spread line to guess which bettor will win the most sets.
