In 72 hours, NHL betting enthusiasts will be either in Minnesota or glued to their television sets, as the 2011 NHL draft takes place in St. Paul. This year’s sports betting NHL draft is considered to be one of the deepest, but with no true franchise star in the mix. Here is a preview to get you prepared.
Adam Larsson D Edmonton Oilers – After stocking the cupboard of the next generation of forward stars, the Edmonton Oilers will now shift their attention to the defensive side of things. Enter Adam Larsson, the top Swedish prospect over the last two years. Scouts and analysts alike each agree that of the players in this year’s draft, the strong Swede is the most NHL ready. While 2010 number one pick Taylor Hall leads the Oilers forward core, Larsson will be a force on the back end for years to come.
Ryan Nugent – Hopkins F Colorado Avalanche – The Avalanche has an abundance of centers on their current roster. However, with rumors that Paul Stastny wants out of Colorado; look for the Avalanche to draft Ryan Nugent Hopkins to take Stastny place as the number two center in Colorado.
Gabriel Landeskog F Florida Panthers – After trading Nathan Horton to the Boston Bruins last offseason, the Florida Panthers clearly showed they missed the heart and soul that Horton had brought to the franchise for many years. Enter Gabriel Landeskog, the heart and soul Captain and winger for the Kitchener Rangers. Landeskog brings the skills and heart that Nathan Horton had when he was in Florida. With the Panthers rebuilding, Landeskog is a must have for their team to move forward.
Jonathan Huberdeau F New Jersey Devils – With rumors that the Devils may be unable to keep Zack Parise thanks to the albatross contract given to Ilya Kovalchuk last offseason, look for the Devils to pick Huberdeau with the fourth selection. A Bet Online scam? Not likely. Huberdeau has all the tools to be a skilled number one center for years to come. What better place to learn, than on a stacked franchise such as the New Jersey Devils.

Belmont betting enthusiasts looking to continue handicapping sports after the conclusion of the Triple Crown this weekend should look no further than the MLB. Annually beginning in April and concluding in October, MLB betting enthusiasts have become some of the most profitable bettors in the industry, because of the excruciatingly long season. With 15 games on the card today, here are a couple of games bettors should have their sights set on when placing a bet.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Pittsburgh Pirates – In any other season, we would have recommended you avoided this game at all costs. However, over the last three weeks, the Arizona Diamondbacks have gone into beast mode, as they have won roughly 20 of their last 28 games. In this matchup, the Diamondbacks send Zach Duke to the mound to take on Paul Maholm and the Pittsburgh Pirates. For another consecutive season, the Pirates are making an early season bid at the NL Central crown, but still have a long way to go.
The trends associated with this game are as follows, the Arizona Diamondbacks are an impressive 25 – 14 under the total in night games. Conversely, the Pittsburgh Pirates own a team starts record of one and nine when the total of the game is between seven to eight and a half runs. For all intents and purposes, take the under in this game, and the Diamondbacks to win the game.
Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers – This game features two of the biggest teams to fly under the radar over the last few seasons. It may sound like a betonline scam, but the Texas Rangers are the former American League Champions. Conversely, the Tigers have had many peaks and valleys during the last couple of seasons while missing the playoffs.
In this evening’s matchup, the Tigers send Phil Coke to the mound to face off with Alexi Ogando. Ironically, the Tigers and Rangers share identical records of eight and one over the total, when the Tigers bullpen hasn’t given up a run in the previous outing, and the Rangers face a left hander starter. |

May is one of the best months for betting sports online, as there is a wide variety to choose from. This wide variety includes sports such as the NHL and NBA playoffs, UEFA Soccer, Horse Racing, Boxing, UFC and Golf. In horse racing, betters are given the opportunity in May to place bets on the Triple Crown races. The Triple Crown is the Horse Racing equivalent to major human team sports championships. As the three biggest races of the year the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont horse races allow betters the opportunity to claim large monetary victories. In five days on May 15 th, the second leg of the Triple Crown takes place, the Preakness. Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, being ridden by jockey Calvin Borel is given the task of becoming a Triple Crown winner which is no easy feat. Nonetheless with such high expectations to win, betters can feel their bets are safe when picking Super Saver as jockey Calvin Borel has the most experience out of any of the jockeys involved. Casinos in Las Vegas provide betters with the ability to bet Preakness online. Other events in May which make for an excellent start of the Spring Summer betting season, include the recent Mosley-Mayweather boxing match which took place on May 1st, UFC 113 this past weekend, and the Masters men's golf tournament which saw the return of Tiger Woods. With such events overwhelming the month of May, online sports betters also have the pleasure of being able to bet on the FIFA World Cup and the Stanley Cup Playoffs in June. July to September give online betters a chance to cool down by placing bets on the regular season matchups in the MLB and various UFC and boxing events, before getting back into the thick of things for October and the MLB playoffs and world series. |

Internet sports betting trends focus on the World Series this week as sportsbooks take major action on the Fall Classic. It’s not really surprising to see the Yankees getting so much support in the bets, but I have to wonder if it’s actually warranted. Yes, the Yankees had the majors’ best record this season and have been dominant so far in the playoffs. But, looking closer, they had by far the easiest playoff matchup of any team in the Division series round when they battled the Twins, who were just happy to be there. Then, the Angel bats imploded when opportunities were there for the taking. The Phillies had to battle through a red-hot Rockies team followed by the Dodgers, who were the NL’s best team last year. They have the deepest pitching staff in the majors and play phenomenal defense. If you think defense doesn’t mean much, know that seven of the eight playoff qualifiers ranked in the MLB’s top 10 in fielding percentage. The Phillies are young, more athletic, and better baserunners. They also won the World Series last year, for cryin’ out loud, and the Yanks are back in the Fall Classic for the first time since 2003. Why, then, are the Yankees getting all the Northbet.com sportsbook support? Is it because of their established personality as the “Big Bad Yankees”? The celebrity appeal of A-Rod? Maybe it’s because of what Mariano Rivera brings in close games, which could be the best reason of all. I don’t know about you, but I see an opportunity when I look at the betting trends. Thank you, Yankee supporters; you’ve shifted the lines to give the Phillies solid value at +185 and I’ll laugh all the way to the bank when they edge the Bronx Bombers in the World Series. |
