NFL betting enthusiasts have come to love wagering on their favorite players who have become difference makers in the league from their rookie season on wards. Betting on NFL rookies can be tricky, however, the 2010 draft class may be the hardest to pick a rookie of the year from. Here are three rookies we think have a good shot at winning the Rookie of the Year for 2010 and this would also be helpful for gambling on sports.
- Ryan Mathews Runningback San Diego Chargers – After letting long time running back LaDainian Tomlinson leave for the Jets, the Chargers had a huge whole to fill in the backfield. Enter Ryan Mathews, the 12th overall pick in the draft. Throughout his college career, injuries got the best of Mathews as he missed games in each of the last four seasons. Nevertheless, the Fresno State product will provide much needed help for the Chargers this year. If he can stay healthy, look for Mathews to lead a deadly run game in San Diego.
- Earl Thomas Free Safety Seattle Seahawks – Thomas a product of the Texas Longhorns system should be a first stringer coming opening day for the Seahawks. Over the last few years, the Seahawks have been dreadful defensively. The playmaker Thomas was selected at 14th and could literally be the steal of the draft. He led Texas with 63 tackles and eight interceptions. We see him as the rookie of the year if all goes according to plan with the new look Seahawks. Thomas could potentially give pass offenses nightmares for years to come.
- Ndamukong Suh Defensive Tackle Detroit Lions – Finally agreeing to a contract just before the start of preseason, Suh makes a dreadful defensive line ten times better. He may just be the most complete defensive player in the draft. At six foot four 307 pounds, Suh is a monster. We would have taken him over Thomas, but after all this is Detroit and although Suh is seen as complete, he might also be a complete bust for the Lions.
