Online Sports Betting – Playing The Money Line As An Alternative To The Spread
Thursday, 19 January 2012 00:59

In a sports betting world where the NFL and NBA lines are dominated by the point spread, the money line is no longer as popular in those sports, even though it remains the popular option in the NHL and MLB. While it may not be as popular when it comes to football and basketball, the money line is still always available, and for those willing to take the time to invest properly, it could serve as an excellent money making tool. So many times players miss out on hitting their wagers by just a half-point after taking the spread, but since betting on the money line comes down to picking just the winner and loser, it makes for an easy way to avoid that frustration.

The easiest way to understand how the money line wager works is to base it on a $100 wager. An example of a money line wager could be the Chicago Blackhawks listed at minus-180 against the Columbus Blue Jackets at plus-140. Any time a team is listed as a minus, they are considered the favorite, while the plus matches up with the underdog. In this example, betting the favorite would mean risking $180 to win $100, or risking $100 to win $140 on the underdog. While it may not always make sense to go with the money line for football or basketball if the spread will not drastically change the outlook, it makes sense to do run with it under the right circumstances depending on the line listed by the pay head bookies, and avoid those tough beats that come with not covering the spread by less than a point.

Online Sports Betting – Managing Expectations Crucial To Success
Thursday, 22 December 2011 01:11

One of the most common mistakes made by players when they first start sports betting is that they set unrealistically high goals for themselves right out of the gate. Regardless of how well they know a sport, or how hard they try at it, it is simply unreasonable to believe that they will have a chance to make six figures in the first two weeks of playing, yet so many players still try. More often than not those dreams of winning big are shattered early on, and most of the time they can really get the player in trouble. Expectations can have a major influence on the long-term success or failure of players, and while it isn’t talked about as much as the number crunching and sports knowledge, it is the most important aspect of beating the pay head bookies.

Rather than concentrate on winning big right away, players should always focus on making a profit, because as long as they are working the number in the right direction they can consider what they are doing a success. One they are able to bankroll, the time will come where it is appropriate to take a shot and go big, but when they are still working small out of their own pocket, the chances at winning should never outweigh the risk of ending up in debt. Just like any other hobby, it can take practice and experience to figure out the best method for success. Sports betting isn’t any different, whether it is the NFL or any other sport, so it is important to be patient early on and manage expectations.

Wednesday, 26 October 2011 18:19

Perhaps the most interesting sportsbook reviews matchup heading in to the Breeders’ Cup is between Havre de Grace and Uncle Mo, two of the most talked-about horses this season. Widely considered among the nation’s most interesting three-year old horses, last year’s Juvenile winner Uncle Mo will attempt to hold off the best filly in the United States in Havre de Grace as two of the more notable names in the race. That list also includes Belmont Stakes winner Drosslemeyer, Travers winner Stay Thirsty, three-time Eclipse Award winner Gio Ponti, and one of the most highly promoted horses to come over from Europe in So You Think. It will be difficult to separate the true contenders from the pretenders in this race, especially considering the resumes of all of the aforementioned horses, and the post position announcements will be the next step in determining the pay head favorites.

NCAA Football 2012 BCS Bowl Predictions
Thursday, 01 September 2011 01:21

The betting has begun on the college football regular season, and that means that the speculating has begun on who will play in the 2012 BCS Bowl for the National Championship. There are a lot of names getting thrown around as potential challengers to the title won by Auburn last year. The Auburn Tigers are not favored to win the BCS Bowl this year as they lost many of their key players to the NFL in the draft. But there are plenty of other teams that are ready to take Auburn’s spot.

Oregon Ducks

Last year, the Ducks looked like they were ready to take off and challenge for the BCS title but started to fall short towards the end of the season. With a year of experience under their belts, the football betting online public thinks that this could be the year of the Duck.

LSU Tigers

Louisiana is known for its bass fishing tips and college football excellence. With a solid offense highlighted by an exciting passing game, the Tigers will be challenging for a spot in the BCS Bowl when December rolls around.

Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners are considered by many to be the odds-on favorites to make the BCS Bowl and win it all. The Sooners’ offense can grind the ball on the ground and the defense is able to shut down the opposing passing game while stuffing the run.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Tide is also a heavy favorite to make it to the BCS Bowl, but this may be more of a sentimental favorite than anything else. Alabama’s defense is second to none, but its offense is not National Championship caliber.

BCS Bowl Prediction: Oklahoma Versus Oregon

Winner: Oklahoma

NFL 2011 Preview: Long-Shot Odds to Win Super Bowl XLVI
Thursday, 04 August 2011 00:44

Sports betting football fans love an underdog, and there are plenty to choose from in the updated odds for Super Bowl XLVI. There are a few teams that could surprise the league in 2011, and their long-shot odds make them a tempting bet.

Detroit Lions (Super Bowl XLVI Odds: 25 to 1)

Considering how awful the Lions have played over the past three or four years, odds of 25 to 1 are not that bad. But the betting experts see the same potential in the Lions that the fans do. If you are looking for something that is as close to a long-shot lock for Super Bowl XLVI odds, then the Lions are your team.

Seattle Seahawks (Super Bowl XLVI Odds: 80 to 1)

Online casino football fans were wondering what kinds of off-season changes the Seattle Seahawks would make to improve their team. The additions of wide receiver Sidney Rice and quarterback Tavaris Jackson can be considered upgrades to an offense that needed some flair. The drafting of rookie offensive lineman James Carpenter in the first round shows that Seattle has identified its issues and is looking to fix them.

Cincinnati Bengals (Super Bowl XLVI Odds: 100 to 1)

This is the ultimate long-shot Super Bowl bet, but it is interesting to consider. The Bengals just signed quarterback Bruce Gradkowski and got their first round draft pick wide receiver A.J. Green under contract. Is the Cincinnati defense good enough to compete for the AFC title? Maybe not, but stranger things have happened.
