NFL Rookie Of The Year Prediction?
Friday, 03 September 2010 02:53

NFL betting enthusiasts have come to love wagering on their favorite players who have become difference makers in the league from their rookie season on wards. Betting on NFL rookies can be tricky, however, the 2010 draft class may be the hardest to pick a rookie of the year from. Here are three rookies we think have a good shot at winning the Rookie of the Year for 2010.

  • Ryan Mathews Runningback San Diego Chargers – After letting long time running back LaDainian Tomlinson leave for the Jets, the Chargers had a huge whole to fill in the backfield. Enter Ryan Mathews, the 12th overall pick in the draft. Throughout his college career, injuries got the best of Mathews as he missed games in each of the last four seasons. Nevertheless, the Fresno State product will provide much needed help for the Chargers this year. If he can stay healthy, look for Mathews to lead a deadly run game in San Diego.
  • Earl Thomas Free Safety Seattle Seahawks – Thomas a product of the Texas Longhorns system should be a first stringer coming opening day for the Seahawks. Over the last few years, the Seahawks have been dreadful defensively. The playmaker Thomas was selected at 14th and could literally be the steal of the draft. He led Texas with 63 tackles and eight interceptions. We see him as the rookie of the year if all goes according to plan with the new look Seahawks. Thomas could potentially give pass offenses nightmares for years to come.
  • Ndamukong Suh Defensive Tackle Detroit Lions – Finally agreeing to a contract just before the start of preseason, Suh makes a dreadful defensive line ten times better. He may just be the most complete defensive player in the draft. At six foot four 307 pounds, Suh is a monster. We would have taken him over Thomas, but after all this is Detroit and although Suh is seen as complete, he might also be a complete bust for the Lions.

Jimenez’s Streak Ends At 33 In Win
Monday, 07 June 2010 20:53

It was an improbable hitter that ended Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez's improbable shut out run in Colorado's 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Jimenez had pitched 33 straight innings without allowing an earned run, before Arizona's Conor Jackson blasted a two-run shot in the eighth inning to end the franchise record streak. The home run was Jackson's first of the season, pulling the Diamondbacks to within one run of tying the game, but that was as close as they would get as closer Manuel Corpas would come in for the save, ensuring Jimenez his 11th win of the season, making him the first pitcher to hit that mark in the MLB betting league.

The online sports betting victory is just another chapter in the storybook season that the 26-year old is having. Jackson's home run was just the second of the year Jimenez had allowed, and actually raised his ERA, which is now at 0.93. That number is the fourth best in the history of Major League Baseball, and is a big reason why the Rockies have managed to remain competitive in the tough National League West, as illustrated by Colorado's 29-27 record, including Jimenez's 11-1 mark. The Rockies' previous pitching record for consecutive scoreless innings was 29, registered by Gabe White back in the 2000 season. The Domenican-native has been named NL Pitcher of the Month in consecutive months, and if he can somehow continue this incredible pace, should be a lock to win the NL Cy Young award.

NHL Sports Betting News
Monday, 26 April 2010 20:11

Well there are three big NHL games coming up on Monday and it will be interesting to see how it will all pan out.

Boston Bruins vs Buffalo Sabres

Does it really matter if Vanek is back or not for this game? After all, he is just one player, and an injured one at that. Buffalo needs to find a way to play better, both offensively and defensively if they are to push this to a game seven. Depending on Miller will not work this time. They are desperate and they will play like it come Monday night. The sports betting odds are against them, but that does but that has not meant much in these playoffs. Buffalo has all the weapons it needs to win and force a game seven.

Boston will come out hard to try and wrap up the series. There is even talk that Marc Savard may be back for this game. Can anyone else see that it is way too early for him to come back? He would step into the middle of a war, right after a serious concussion. Remember what happened to Eric Lindros when he came out early after a concussion for the Flyers against the New Jersey Devils in the playoffs? Scott Stevens gave him another concussion in the same game and he was out for the rest of the season. Let us hope that the Bruins have better sense than to send this guy out to be taken apart. It will be his career on the line and Boston really needs him long term.

Despite the NHL betting odds not being in their favor, the Sabres should find a way to win. Of course, some luck being on their side would help. There have been plenty of lucky bounces in this series so that may essentially determine the outcome of this series. The Sabres played hard to win game five and game six should be no different. This one will go to seven if they can play the same way again.

Pick Colts, Vikings for Super Bowl showdown
Tuesday, 08 December 2009 19:32

While looking over the Titans vs Colts betting odds for this weekend’s game, I got the urge to start thinking about my Super Bowl picks. Right now, it’s looking like it’ll be Indianapolis against Minnesota in Super Bowl XLIV in Miami in February.

AFC Pick: Indianapolis (+100)

The Colts are favored over New England, Cincinnati and San Diego, as well as Pittsburgh, in your online sportsbook as they are 11-0 heading into this weekend’s showdown with Tennessee. The Colts have shown they can blow teams out, as well as win the close games, and with Peyton Manning on the team, Indy is NEVER out of a game. The questions on the Colts come from a suspect running game, and injuries that have depleted their secondary, forcing them to go young.

NFC Pick: Minnesota (+110)

Unbeaten New Orleans are the online sportsbook favorites at -105, but I would go with the Vikings, who offer better value. Brett Favre is probably a favorite to win the MVP award due to the media’s obsession with him, but the 40-year-old may be playing the best football of his career. The Vikings also have the league’s best running back in Adrian Peterson, and their defense is more consistent than the Saints. Like the Colts, the Vikings have experienced some injuries in their secondary, but they’re starting to get healthy at just the right time for you to put them in your NFL picks.

World Series Repeat Looking More and More Likely
The World Series approaches and it seems my World Series predictions are starting to change. Is it a product of almost every division winner being decided already? Maybe my mind is wandering and I’m starting to get ideas?

For whatever reason, I’m drifting from the Yankees as my pick to win it all. Maybe it’s the Joba Rules fiasco or A.J. Burnett’s recent struggles. More likely, though, it’s that the Phillies look like the deepest team in baseball right now. Arguably, their current rotation is better than that of their championship 2008 roster. Cole Hamels is still an ace when it counts and Cliff Lee has truly earned 1A status. Joe Blanton is the epitome of a mid-rotation innings eater. J.A. Happ has the inside track on NL Rookie of the Year honors. That leaves the Pedro Martinez/Jamie Moyer combo as the final slot. How’s that for depth?

The offense more than measures up, too, as the Phillies have four of the National League’s top 11 home-run hitters. Ryan Howard, Jayson Werth, Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez all have 30-plus homers this season. Insanity.

If there’s one problem for Philly entering the postseason, it’s the bullpen. Then again, the Phillies have plenty of capable guys ready to step up should Brad Lidge falter. Brett Myers has done it before and even Pedro would be a very intriguing closer choice.

Look out, Yankees…the Phillies are poised to repeat.
