Thursday, 07 July 2011 01:48

Sports betting fans love getting ahead of themselves and speculating on champions before the season even starts. Online casino odds makers have already release the preliminary odds for Super Bowl XLVI, and there are some interesting numbers on that list. There are a few teams that people may want to consider as legitimate underdog contenders for Super Bowl XLVI.

Detroit Lions (Super Bowl XLVI Odds: 50/1)

Considering how bad the Lions were just two years ago, those are not bad odds for Detroit to win it all in 2012. If any underdog team possesses the talent to win the big game, it is the Lions. Detroit’s offense is loaded with top young talent in quarterback Matthew Stafford, running back Jahvid Best and wide receiver Calvin Johnson. The Detroit defense was showing signs of being one of the best in the league last season. Watch for the Lions to make a move this year that could end up in Indianapolis in February.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Super Bowl XLVI Odds: 30/1)

The Bucs are another young team loaded with talent. On offense, Tampa Bay still needs to address the running back issue. On defense, Tampa needs a pass rush. If they can address those issues in free agency, which is entirely possible, then the Buccaneers become an underdog contender to win Super Bowl XLVI.

St. Louis Rams (Super Bowl XLVI Odds: 60/1)

The Rams have a solid running game with Steven Jackson and a competent quarterback in second-year starter Sam Bradford. There is a good corps of young wide receivers in St. Louis that want to win. The only thing holding the Rams back is their defensive secondary. Draft picks from the 2011 draft, and some work in free agency, may solve those problems and propel St. Louis to the Super Bowl.
